inspiration: Paintings from India and Barbies?

I checked this book out from the library today. I would have shown you more, but the camera on my battery died right after I took these 2 photos. I love the vibrant colors, flattened perspective, the frame within a frame compositions, the gold leaf...I could go on and on.

I also found a huge display of Barbies at the library. I was about to walk right on by, because, c'mon, they're Barbies. But they sucked me in. And soon, 3 other grown women got sucked in as well, and it was like we were all 9 years old again, taking photos of the Barbies, pointing out which ones were our favorites, talking about which ones we got for Christmas (way back when)...I know they are kind of tacky and sexist, but after capturing my interest for well over 5 minutes today, I've got to admit they still have a certain allure. Here are some photos of my favorites in the display:

The classics. They still look good.

Cher and Brandi singing a duet?

Probably one of the last people I would think of to make into a Barbie.

Notice the weird juxtoposition of these two dolls. Also, the one on the left is interesting in light of recent current events.

p.s. I'm not saying that these Barbies are inspirational. But they are kind of fascinating.

I remember playing with barbies in your awesome doll house at your house in Torrance. I was so jealous.

I love barbies...especially my Elvis, Marilyn, and Lucy barbies!!! I need the one in the lingerie! My mom still sometimes gets me the classic collectors barbies for Christmas, I even have numerous barbie ornaments....hmm, maybe we are onto something, maybe that's why I am drawn to photographing pretty girls ;)

i don't really like barbies. i can't really remember why, but i think it's because i don't like dolls in general. i prefer plush toys. they are interesting to look at though, especially in a collection.
