the sycamore q+a {no. 22}: Abby Powell Thompson of Abby Try Again

Aren't these images just dreamy? I think the colors and small details are a perfect compliment to spring. They were all taken by Abby Powell Thompson of abby try again. Abby has a beautiful blog and an online shop that will make you swoon. I've been admiring her work for a while now, and I'm so happy that she agreed to do a little Q&A for me.

1.) How did you get into whatever it is you are into?

I started a craft blog four years ago and found that I enjoyed taking photos of interesting things a little more than making them! I soon became obsessed with documenting the little things in my life and started experimenting with cameras I found at thrift stores and now I can’t imagine my life without photography.

2.) What’s inspiring you these days?

I’m really into films from the 1960’s-70’s lately and the rich colors they have. I think the movie Days of Heaven has the most gorgeous images. And flickr, I am always finding inspiration there.

3.) Tell us about something you’ve made or done lately.

I’ve recently started photographing all of my vintage cameras. I try to capture the “personality” I see in them and hope to present them as a group somewhere…it’s been interesting trying to capture feelings from inanimate objects.

4.) Is there anything else we should/would be interested to know about you?

I work on a monthly collaboration with screen print/letter press artist, Chelsea Parker Guidry. We create monthly art duos in limited edition. You can find out more at printplusspress.bigcartel.com.

Thanks Abby!
I love that she found all her cameras in thrift stores...and that she is inspired by films from the 60's and 70's. Some of my favorite films are from that era, too, but I've never seen Days of Heaven. I'll have to check it out. Please take a look at more of Abby's photos at these links:
