Hatch Show Print opened in 1879, and is America's oldest working poster print shop. They have an amazing library of old wooden and lead type, as well as hand carved woodblocks and antique zinc cuts. Back in the 20's they did lots of posters for vaudeville theater, magicians, B movies, etc... and then in the 50's started doing posters for the Grand Ole Opry. Nowadays, they are a museum owned by the Country Music Hall of Fame as well as a working printshop. They reprint old favorites, but also continue to make new designs for current musicians like Bruce Springsteen, Garth Brooks, and Coldplay. We even found one for Tony! Toni! Toné!.
Kirk and I loved this place. And the people who work there are some of the nicest we've met. They let us ooh and ahh over everything and nose around and take photos and ask questions, all while they had their own work to be doing. They never made us feel like we were getting in the way.

that place looks really neat. did you get any cool prints/posters while you were there?
we're driving thru tennessee next week. any place you think we must visit?
we did get some. most of their prints are really affordable, and they even have a bargain $3 pile, too. we got johnny cash and hank williams, sr. for us to keep, toni! toni! toné! for kari, patsy cline for kellie's b day, (those are 2 of kirk's sisters) and elvis for my dad's b day. well, i definitely recommend hatch show print! and i really liked the ryman audotorium...and the pancake pantry for sweet potato pancakes...the best pancakes i've ever had. so flavorful and fluffy and light. those places are all in nashville.
we got to see becca and billy while we were in tennessee, too. it was awesome! they were staying with billy's parents in knoxville. it had been 5 years....and we'd never met henry.
wow! looks like an amazing place...wood blocks as far as the eye can see. reminds me of this book i'm reading now "the woman who discovered printing" about how china was first to discover moveable type - and it was all carved in wood. there sure is something to say about it... i had no idea they've been open since 1879 - wild! have a good weekend!
I believe we have a few prints under our bed from the Hatch show in Austin. Such cool stuff!
hatch show print is really great. whenever I'm downtown (I live in nashville) I go visit because looking at all of those prints never gets old : )
