Rooftop Gardens are my Favorite

The places in these photos seem downright magical to me. If I could have my way, I'd live in a big city apartment with a rooftop garden. I'd have an overblown, messy garden full of flowers and vegetables with cozy spots to read or eat a casual dinner with friends and family. I might even have some chickens. And then when I felt like it, I could walk out the front door of my building and be on the bustling streets with ready access to all the conveniences and variety of city life.

(I also remember there being a great greenhouse/terrace in the film Green Card, but couldn't really find any photos of it. )

Now these are serious rooftop gardens! I'd love to have something like this on my roof terrace some time, but I guess it takes time to grow a serious garden on your roof. We now have quite a lot of plants in pots, but it's hard to keep them alive in winter. (Let alone sheep!) But maybe within a few years... It's so wonderful to sit at your desk (my studio is right next to our roof terrace) and see all the green and flowers outside...

it's true - they are pretty serious. that would be lovely to look out the window of your studio and see your little terrace. i've always loved rooftops and being up in a high place like that with a view...my husband and i even decided to get married one evening when we were up on a rooftop.

i love rooftop gardens too. i wish i didn't have such a black thumb. all of our plants we had when we were at the katy thrived, and i haven't been able to recreate that magic. i think the biggest thing was that i would wake up early in the morning almost every day and water them before it got too hot and give them plant food. i don't really do that now. one day....
