When I was studying in Tonga, the music I most often heard on the radio came from Bollywood. I only saw one movie while I was there - and it was also from Bollywood. Stupid American that I can be, I remember being so surprised at the time that Bollywood films and music could be more popular there than Hollywood and American pop :). Not that it bothered me. I really liked the upbeat rhythms of the songs I'd hear on the radio... it was a welcome change from all the whiny emo on the radio back home.Anyways, I just found these fantastic images on the website for the Museum of World Culture in Gothenburg, Sweden. I wish I could visit the exhibit to learn about what is now the largest film industry in the world. I'd also love to watch some more Bollywood films. Our local library and video shops don't carry any. I'll have to take a look on Netflix. Any recommendations?

i just watched slumdog millionaire (finally!) and even though is not a bollywood movie, it inspired me to watch those. if i find a good one i'll let you know.
i haven't seen a lot of them or even any of the older ones, but one i did see and loved was "lagaan." it has some seriousness too it, but there are some awesome singing/dancing gems in it that made me crack up.
"bride and prejudice" is pretty good and readily available. bollywood is great!
Awesome. I will add "Lagaan" and "Bride and Prejudice" to my list of movies to rent. If anyone else has some suggestions, I would love them.
p.s. Jendar - I loved Slumdog! and wasn't the surprise Bollywood dance just the perfect touch?
i don't know how "bollywood" this movie is, but i loved it too--"monsoon wedding." this movie makes me want to go to an indian wedding very badly. also, there are a lot of really attractive indian guys in it.
I love LOOOOOOOVE Indian music and Bollywood films! One of my favorite things about living in NYC was whenever I would get into a cab and the driver was blasting indian music!! I once had a driver give me 5!!! tapes of indian music after I told him how much I loved the soundtrack we were listening too!!!
And then to top it off, last night I went to a rockin reception and the brides sister is a belly dancer and did a performance for everyone...made me want to start taking belly dance classes!!! And...now that I think of it, if you are interested...we should take some together!!??? :[) lol SERIOUSLY!
Roxy - I am seriously considering this idea....if only we lived closer to one another!
