When I was a kid, my favorite assignment in school was to read a novel and then make a corresponding diorama. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle was one of my all time favorites.
How about you? What were your favorite childhood novels? Did you ever make dioramas in school?

That diorama is the most beautiful thing I've seen in a long time! How lucky that you held on to it! (and I'm new to your blog, but I am enjoying your taste very much).
I loved "A Wrinkle in Time"! It was one of my favorites growing up! I don't remember having made any dioramas, though. I must have missed out. :o)
I loved that book and I am pretty sure I read the whole series. And that diorama is seriously amazing. I like thinking of you as a little kid making it.
A Wrinkle in Time is definitely one of my all-time favorite books. I loved it so much as a child that for years, I carried the book with me everywhere I went. That (extremely tattered) copy now lives on my bookshelf instead of my backpack, but I still think it's an amazing book. Love the diorama!
Maybe we should all start a book club and re-read "A Wrinkle in Time"? Thanks for all the nice things you said about the diorama. If only my nine year old self could have heard...:)
Your diorama is lovely. To be honest I never did any when I was a child... but I've done lots recently. :-)
i loved a wrinkle in time. such a wonderful book. my favorite book from when i was younger, and one that i still read nearly every year is The Witch of Blackbird Pond.
I loved the Witch of Blackbird Pond, too! Maybe I'm gonna have to revisit all my childhood favorites...The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, The Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, Where the Red Fern Grows, and the L.M. Montgomery books all come to mind.
Oh man!
I could go on and on about this subject...but can I just tell you-your diorama kicks butt!
The Farthest Away Mountain was a big one for me-as were all of the Indian in the Cupboard series and of course the Little House books...
Ah, to be a child again. I really do love remembering the magic of reading during those days. Thanks for making me smile.
Abby - I've never heard of the Farthest Away Mountain...but now I'll have to look it up. I loved the Indian in the Cupboard as well. It's true that it was magic back then. I would wake up an hour early so that I could get some reading in before school!
this is so late but i loved "bridge to terabithia" so so so much!
when the feature length came out, i was so excited and even though it got mixed reviews, i was in HEAVEN.
:)
I loved that book, too! I never saw the movie, though, so maybe I'll have to get my hands on it somehow.
