On The Road ///// A Bit of Earth

We took a quick trip last weekend to visit family in California. They have a spot in this community garden which had such a wild, wonderful beauty. Kirk said it reminded him of Russian dachas.

I love that places like this exist.

Do you have a garden?

I just read 'The Secret Garden' to my boys- my favourite part is when she's asking for 'a bit of earth' to call her own;)
We feel very fortunate to have a great yard with a little garden in our rented house. The garden isn't huge- it's enough for a row of peas, lettuce, carrots, beets and a few potato plants, but it's so nice to walk out there in summer and pick a few things for supper.
Hope you're having a lovely summer with Ingrid!

Heather, I love The Secret Garden! That's exactly what I was referring to with the title of this post. My grandmother read it to me when I was visiting her as a child, and it always stuck with me. When I was 13 or so, I asked my parents for a bit of earth and to start my own herb garden. How lovely that you have a garden with your boys. Hope you're having a good summer, too.

We're so glad this area exists too! It's really ideal that, even though we're living in apartments, we get to have this somewhat overgrown space for our kids to find lizards and bugs. One time a baby gopher popped out of the ground in front of Lucy and she fed it some grass before we could get to her (she talks about this even A LOT). We're so glad you visited!

Jenn, It is ideal! With that setup, you could live there forever, pretty much. That's crazy about the baby gopher! It wasn't scared of her? If you guys come to visit, she can play with the dog, cats, chickens, bunny, and see the horses... all right here. :)
