pretty projects ///// Faux Chenille Quilt

Today, I'd love to show you another quilt made for little Ingrid. This blue and green beauty was made by her Grandma Jorgensen (Kirk's mom). When Ingrid gets older, I hope she realizes how lucky she is to have a granny and grandma who sew her such lovely things!

wooden teether by little alouette ///// handmade owl by ? ///// all 3 toys are gifts from friends & family

It's a generous baby-sized blanket. Perfect to line the bassinet, or lay underneath her as she plays on the floor.

Kirk's mom picked out pretty blue and green fabrics to match Ingrid's nook (in our bedroom). Then she sewed long strips of fabric in straight lines to form a faux chenille look. What a lot of patience and skill that must have taken! (This is why I'm not good at sewing.)

I love the soft, nubby texture of it. So does Ingrid. When I sit her down to play, I'll often find her pulling at the tufts of fabric. And aren't the rounded corners such a nice touch? xo, e

p.s. It's almost May, which means it's almost the Month of Paper on this blog! I've had fun picking out some talented paper people to interview, and am just excited in general for a month of paper loveliness. : )

our little life ///// Recent Snapshots

Have you heard of Instagram? It's a free app that a few of my twitter friends introduced me to when I got my iPhone. I used to harp on fake analog images like these, but I suppose I've loosened up a bit! It's just too much fun taking photos with this thing and applying different old fashioned looking filters. (My favorites are the Nashville and the Earlybird.)

I think I'll start posting my Instagram photos here from time to time, but you can also see them more regularly on our Twitter or Facebook feeds. (Kirk posts his photos on the FB feed, too.) And if you have an iPhone, you can go straight to the source and follow me there.

on the road ///// The French Alps

When I was in high school, I dreamed of being an editor at a travel magazine. That obviously never happened, but I'm grateful for the wonderful places I've been able to visit anyway.

Travel isn't really in the cards for me right now, but I still love being able to explore other towns and countries though books and on the internet. This lodge in Megève, France, caught my attention the other day. So cozy and pretty, traditional yet contemporary.

Where would you like to visit?

sound + vision ///// Blouse

I'm loving the dreamy pop of Portland based band, Blouse.  You can listen to some of their music here.
And I don't think you'll want to miss the video I posted below. Paris, fireworks, and a dancing, one-eyed Juliette Binoche. Need I say more?

pretty projects ///// Tumbling Block Quilt

I've been pretty lazy when it comes to taking photos of Ingrid's handmade gifts. It's just that I've been spending most of my photographing energy on capturing the little lady herself! But I've decided I need to make amends. Friends and family have been kind enough to make her some lovely things, and they deserve to be shown off!

As soon as she found out I was pregnant, my granny offered to sew our baby a quilt. She told me to pick out a pattern and some fabric. It didn't take me long to decide on a tumbling block design. I love how it's very traditional but seems modern at the same time. We took a trip over to the local quilt shop, and came back with these sweet little repro patterned fabrics.

I love how it turned out! Can you believe that my granny sewed each and every one of those diamonds together by hand?! And she came up with that lovely triangle border as a surprise. It adds the perfect finishing touch, don't you think? Another great thing about this quilt is that it's quite big. Right now, I have it hanging from the crib as a decoration, and when Ingrid plays on the floor, I spread it out underneath her. Later on, when she transitions out of her crib, it'll make such a pretty covering for her bed. And when my little girl is grown, she'll love having something that her great-grandmother made especially for her.

I hope you don't mind me sharing more of Ingrid's handmade gifts with you...

One great thing about majoring in printmaking is that I got to trade work with so many other artists.
Like the lovely Christa Dalien, for example.

pretty projects ///// Polka Dot Wrap

I love a good polka dot almost as much as I love a good stripe. There's something so cheerful about them... and while mainly playful and fun, a very small dot in a muted color can also be quite sophisticated, don't you think?

Birthday present gift wrap seems like the perfect place for some polka dots. My birthday calendar got lost in our move, and I've been completely scatterbrained without it. Luckily, I found it last week, so I'm making up for lost time. Nothing too fancy -- just quick, easy, and covered in spots.

p.s. If you like dots, check out this idea for a spotty, dotty party over on Hip Hip Hooray!

little things ///// Bobo Choses

images ///// Bobo Choses at Sweet William

I've admired Bobo Choses ever since I heard of them through Lili Scratchy a few years ago. I love their playful prints, mix of neutral and bright colors, and the fun cuts and shapes of their clothes. Their prices don't really fit into my budget for baby clothes, but I may just have to save up & splurge on that cherry romper. I mean, how adorable would a little girl be in that and a pair of Saltwater Sandals
